The Man on the Radio

My mother Noralie “The Hat Lady” told me a story years ago of how when she was a young girl living in the backwoods of New Hampshire she would listen to music on the radio late at night and dream of the bright lights, the big city and all that.

So I wrote, The Man on the Radio, about that romantic kid listening, with her eyes closed,  to the beautiful songs conjured up by the DJ magician and floating from the dark night sky to her ears.

The radio was the thing in those days. And the people talking on it were talking directly to you.
Years after Mum passed I had a girlfriend in Thailand, Pam, who told me much the same story. That in her deep back country Mekong River village she listened to the radio, the DJ, and like my Mum dreamed of Bangkok, the big exciting city which she hoped to see one day.
So I wrote, sang (probably poorly) and recorded this song in the Thai language and style with the help of my Thai musician friends.
